The Role:

The Data Engineer at Moderna is responsible for transforming complex research data, including structured data captured from assay execution, bioinformatics, computational biology, and biostatistics, into intuitive and insightful visual representations. This role is crucial in developing impactful data visualizations and dashboards to facilitate data-driven decision-making within diverse scientific research teams. 

 

Here's What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and maintain advanced data visualization solutions with tools like Tableau, Spotfire, Shiny, and Dash, specifically tailored to represent complex scientific data such as process capture and bioinformatics and biostatistical analyses. 

  • Work closely with scientists and research teams, including those in bioinformatics, protein engineering, and research lab automation, to understand their data visualization needs. 

  • Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reports that effectively communicate complex scientific data trends and insights, supporting diverse research objectives across Moderna. 

  • Collaborate with teams using a wide array of scientific applications to integrate and visualize data from these platforms, including Benchling modules and other specialized tools. 

  • Ensure that visualization outputs are not only technically accurate but also intuitively understandable for scientists and researchers, facilitating easy interpretation and decision-making. 

  • Stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in scientific data visualization, implementing innovative approaches to enhance visualization effectiveness and impact. 

 

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field. 

  • 3+ years of experience in data visualization, with a focus on scientific or research data. 

  • Proficiency in visualization tools like Tableau or Spotfire. 

  • Strong understanding of data structures, databases, and data modeling in a scientific context. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in the healthcare, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical sector. 

  • Advanced degree in a related field. 

  • Skills in UI/UX design principles, with an ability to translate complex scientific concepts into visually appealing and informative graphics. 

  • Familiarity with data science and engineering tools such as Domino Data Lab, Dataiku, DBeaver, Spotfire, Tableau, and scientific data capture and study design tools like Tetrascience and Benchling.
